We are always quick to upgrade our smartphones as soon as a new version is launched on the market. Or get the new LED Smart TV that just dropped. In home improvement projects we think of adding some new tech, like smart lights or a smart thermostat. That is all pretty great but there’s a particular device we tend to overlook many times, or just have never paid attention to: smart speakers.
Smart speakers may sound like an unnecessary device to have in the home, given that not many Americans have a bunch of smart devices to connect to them, there are still some that do. Whether you have smart devices in your home or not, smart speakers are very useful to have around the house.
Here are a few reasons why it’s time you invest in a smart speaker for your home.
All Rounded Connectivity
For those that have other smart home devices in their homes, a smart speaker makes it much easier to control those devices via voice command. All smart devices come with mobile applications that allow you to control and have access to them, but what’s better than being able to control them simply with your voice?
Once connected, you can command Siri, Alexa or your Google Home Smart Assistant Speaker (whichever smart speaker you have) to switch off the smart lights in the living room, or to turn down the temperature of the thermostat. Did you ever think this was possible? It is, and all because of these smart speakers that people tend to overlook.
Smart speakers can play music from thousands of searches on YouTube, and even from your personalized playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, whichever platform it supports.
Now whether you’re doing yoga, or cleaning up the house, all you have to do is say ‘Hey Google, play Kanye West’s new album Donda’, and your smart speaker searches from the internet and plays your music for you. Their speakers are usually very impressive given their small sizes.
When we said that smart speakers are great at compatibility with other smart home devices, they really are. Without using their mobile apps, use voice commands to set schedules and control the devices in a moment where you’re already preoccupied. Getting hot in the kitchen while cooking dinner? Just use your voice to change the temperature of your smart thermostat – it’s that easy.
However, you do not necessarily need other smart devices around the house to be able to make full use of your smart speaker. These devices are like virtual assistants in your home. If not other smart devices, then our phones are also smartphones, just like the TV in any average American household is a Smart TV. Dictate and reply to a text or place calls while you’re busy with something else and can’t get to your phone. Tell Google or Siri or Alexa to play Gone Girl on Netflix while you get the popcorn ready for movie night. If that is not literally hands-free help then what is?
More Free Time
Considering all the above that smart speakers can do for us and our smart devices, this leaves room for some extra free time for all of us. Smart speakers are capable of multitasking so when you’ve set schedules for your smart lights, and smart thermostats, even the smart sprinklers, there’s a lot that you can do with your spare time. There is no need to constantly check on the daily if things are going as you had scheduled them to.
Moreover, with free time, we also refer to the smart speaker’s ability to conduct basic Google searches, as well as checking up on weather forecasts and traffic situations, so you can make better use of your time in certain situations.
Smart speakers are the virtual assistants we didn’t know we need. These little devices are so powerful and brilliant, they can run your entire household for you, without you having to literally lift a finger. There is one thing to keep in mind though, smart speakers just like all other smart devices require a Wi-Fi network and strong connectivity in order to fully and timely function. Once that’s sorted, watch how easy life becomes!
