Tuljapur –Due to the Corona epidemic, there was a severe lockout in Maharashtra from March 22 to June 8, 2020. During this period, MSEDCL did not send representatives for electricity meter readings and did not disburse electricity bills. MSEDCL sent three to four times the exorbitant and exorbitant electricity bills to the homeless people during this period. The number of electricity bills was so large that the urban middle class, including the rural poor, were taken aback.
Corona layoffs have led to the closure of trade, industry, and the loss of many jobs, and a 25 to 50 per cent reduction in the salaries of many, which has cut off the source of income and made it impossible for the majority of citizens to pay their electricity bills. Other political parties, including the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), have lodged complaints with the state’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Energy Minister Nitin Raut, after which the power minister has promised to take a decision soon.
False promises of relief to the common man for months and finally threatening to cut off power supply from the common man by charging exorbitant electricity bills is not only a betrayal of political promises but also a plunder of the people by colluding with the power companies. In a statement to Naldurg Police Station Inspector Saheb, it was demanded that a case be registered against the state’s energy minister Nitin Raut and the chief executive officer of MSEDCL for committing fraud and causing mental distress.
The statement has the signatures of District President Prashant Navgire, District Secretary Jyotiba Yedge, Taluka President Mallikarjun Kumbhar, Adv. Matin Badewale of Public Interest and Law Department, City President Alim Sheikh, City Secretary Pramod Kulkarni, City Vice President Ramesh Ghodke, Manvise City President Suraj Chavan and Nikhil Yedge, Avej. Inamdar, Sandeep Vaidya, Sunil Kamble etc. were present.
